Director of Development

Description Commonwealth Autism Service (CAS) is a statewide multi-service autism specialist organization focusing on our mission to “provide leadership in the implementation of a statewide system of services designed to maximize the potential and quality of life of each Virginian with autism across the lifespan.” The organization employs more than 50 staff across the Commonwealth in a wide variety of service delivery models designed to a) model best practice and, b) enhance and grow the capacity of public and private service providers to best serve individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. We are seeking a seasoned candidate who can provide leadership in the development of this role, which is new to our organization. The Director of Development will oversee the Community Outreach Coordinator and create a functioning department responsible for development, marketing, public relations and community outreach. The position will report directly to the CEO.
Required Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a combination of experience, vision, personality and education to position them for success in the role and within the organization. Namely: • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a senior member of a development office in a non-profit organization. • Experience with all aspects of development, i.e. annual campaigns, capital campaigns, solicitations to corporations, foundations and individuals, donor cultivation, planning and executing fund raising events, and grant writing. • The ability to help shape/create this new function within CAS. • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written. • Proficiency with developing and maintaining donor based data systems. • A verifiable track record of fund arising success. • A team player who understands the “big picture” and their role with helping achieve the mission. • Marketing experience also highly desirable. • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
