Tell us a little about yourself and your work.

I currently serve as chairman of our Nonprofit Industry Team which consists of individuals who are dedicated to delivering client centered services and guidance to nonprofit organizations and closely held businesses. Members of this team have worked with trade and professional associations, public charities, schools, and social service organizations.

How does your work serve the nonprofit sector?

Mitchell Wiggins has worked with over 200 nonprofit organizations during its almost 70-year history and currently serves over 55% of the largest membership organizations located the Richmond area. We provide assistance with tax and financial statement preparation, bookkeeping, budget development and review, board governance, technology, and analysis of retirement plan benefits.

Our business consulting and planning services help nonprofits to analyze the anticipated financial support needed to fulfill its strategic mission and remain sustainable. Transparency, communication of outcomes, and sound internal controls are critical factors for nonprofit success. We assure that relevant and reliable information about the financial position, performance, and governance of the organization is available.   

How does your work support ConnectVA’s mission to empower individuals, advance organizations, and strengthen our community?

Measuring the nonprofits’ impact on the community and communicating outcomes to the public, donors, constituents, and regulators demonstrates the organization’s ability to meet identified needs. Strong internal controls assure that the nonprofit adheres to policies and procedures, safeguards assets, and operates efficiently.  All of these factors show accountability, build trust and make certain that programming results are aligned with the organization’s mission.  On-going review allows the organization to change its direction and allocation of resources if needed.  

Our greatest reward is seeing our nonprofit clients thrive and grow so they can expand programs and serve the community in a greater capacity.
