Dear CONNECT VA members-
Good morning! My name is Kim Hartzler-Weakley and I am a Doctoral Candidate from the School of Strategic Leadership Studies at James Madison University and I am conducting a study to examine the effects of leadership on work attitudes, worker motivation, and work outcomes in nonprofit organizations.
The US has one of the largest nonprofit sectors in the world in both size and scope. Nonprofits account for a substantial and increasing share of the workforce in the US. Hidden in the sector growth is the issue of high turnover and related recruitment/retention issues. Turnover costs nonprofit organizations money, loss of efficiency, productivity, knowledge, and expertise. High turnover also has implications for the quality, consistency, and stability of an organization. As the leader of a nonprofit organization this should be an area of concern for you and your organization. What can be done to prevent costs associated with turnover in the nonprofit sector? This study presents a first step by investigating the impact of leadership on work attitudes, worker motivation, and work outcomes in nonprofit organizations. Information gained from this study holds practical implications for nonprofit leadership and will have a direct impact on reducing turnover and the associated costs. The results of this survey will contribute to the understanding and improvement of the turnover in the nonprofit sector. This study holds potential for practical implications on how nonprofit leaders can increase job satisfaction, reduce turnover, and increase organizational citizenship behaviors in an effort to reduce costs and improve organizational performance.
I need your help!
I am recruiting employees (over the age of 18) of nonprofit organizations in Virginia to participate in this study.
Please consider taking the survey and distributing it to all of your nonprofit employees (colleagues and friends too). The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Once participants have completed and submitted the survey, if interested, they will be directed to a separate link to enter their contact information for the chance to win one of two $100 gift cards (will be selected at random).
The survey can be accessed through the following web address: http://www.virginianonprofitsurvey.org
Thank you for your help! Please contact me for additional information or if you have any questions.
