Rachel Bender-Meyer of Titan Group

Tell us about you. 

My name is Rachel Bender-Meyer and I am the Director of Search for Titan Group, a human resources consulting firm based in Richmond. For the past 19 years, I have been consulting with organizations in a variety of industries including retail, human resources, finance, banking, healthcare, pharmaceutical, advertising, marketing and interactive to assist them with finding the talent they need to fill their mid- to senior-level roles. In an effort to follow my desire to expand upon my knowledge and capabilities, I took a reprieve from the recruitment industry and had the pleasure of working for Comfort Zone Camp, a nonprofit organization for bereaved children, as their Director of Regional Philanthropy. I have found this experience to be invaluable to the nonprofit client base with whom Titan works.

What is the focus of your work?

I am the Practice Leader for the Search Division. We work to find the right HR talent for an organization, whether it be on an interim basis or executive level search basis. We also work with nonprofits to fill their executive-level needs, and because of this work, we are rolling out Interim CEO and Executive Director services to address the need we see in the market.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

I enjoy making the connections and solving problems for our clients through finding the right candidate. I also love working with nonprofit organizations because I am able to help them not only achieve their goals but also meet their mission. I feel that as their trusted recruitment consultant I am able to indirectly help serve their constituency base.

What are some major challenges you have faced and how you handled them?

Every new project is a challenge because every client’s needs are unique. At Titan Group we offer a high-touch approach, so I sit down with each new client to listen to and identify their needs so that I understand what is best for their organization. I then develop my action plan on how I will meet those specific needs and combine that plan with Titan’s established methodology that has been proven to provide success and results.

What’s coming next for your organization that really excites you?

Titan Group is growing and expanding, especially after our recent merger with Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc., which has increased our resources that we are able to provide to our clients. Through this partnership, we now have access to even more field experts and we are utilizing some of those connections at an upcoming Ask the Experts workshop that we are hosting this March for the public:

We are also increasing our nonprofit search capacity to provide nonprofit interim assistance, which I am very excited about.

How are you leveraging ConnectVA to achieve your mission?

At Titan Group, our mission is to increase the return on people investment and we find that ConnectVA helps us achieve that not only with our clients but also within our own team. We utilize the volunteer resources for our Titan Volunteer Days because we believe in giving back to the community. We also use ConnectVA to stay up-to-date with the nonprofit sector and utilize the professional development opportunities and job postings to see where we might be able to help.

Anything else you would like to share?

We are proud to be a part of the thriving nonprofit community in Virginia and we look forward to continuing to develop these relationships and providing subject matter expertise in the area of human services. What I find is at the end of the day, it just feels good to help nonprofits.
