Lora M. Robins Speaker Series Presents Tim Wise
October 13 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am| $50
The first session of this year’s series
EQUITY: FROM CONCEPT TO ACTION
Join us as we explore equity, what it means, how it affects us and most importantly, how we can implement practices that yield thriving communities.
Community leaders have the desire and charge to increase opportunities for families and children, yet often efforts are dampened by systemic inequities based on race, gender and economic status. These are not issues of the past.
This year the Lora M. Robins Speaker Series will present three nationally known thought leaders who will share their perspectives on the persistence and widening of racial and class inequities in education, the workplace, and throughout society. Join us in moving from aspirational ideas to ACTION.
TIM WISE / CHALLENGING CULTURAL BIASES
To broaden our lens, this session will focus in on a perspective of how American politics and culture rationalize inequalities on the basis of class and race. True equal opportunity can only be achieved by disrupting the dominant narratives that have persisted throughout history to elevate certain groups while oppressing others. Join us for a candid conversation with Tim Wise, author of Under the Affluence: Shaming the Poor, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future of America, as we address equity in our communities.
