Mission Statement The mission of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) is to share stories thatinspire. We educate the public about the many contributions of African Americans by sharing the full range ofhistory and culture. This is done by collecting, preserving, and interpreting historical and cultural artifacts;presenting art and cultural work from nationally traveling exhibitions and local artists; hosting communityconversations about history, art, culture and current events; offering children’s programming that boostsimagination and cultural experiences; and creating a community gathering place that is welcoming andinspirational for local residents and visitors alike.
