The mission of Mental Health America of Virginia is to educate, empower, and advocate to improve the mental health of all Virginians. MHAV advocates for public and private sector services and financing to ensure adequate and appropriate detection, treatment, housing, and rehabilitation programs. Teaming with individuals who have their own lived experience with a mental health condition, friends and family, mental health professionals, providers and the public we help educate policy makers and elected officials that mental health is part of overall good health, and stress the services needed to ensure hope and recovery. MHAV educates the public about mental health and mental illnesses to eliminate the stigma which prevents people from receiving the help they need. MHAV promotes and provides programs to meet the needs of individuals in recovery, to improve mental health, and to reduce conditions which impede the attainment of mental health.
