United Way focuses on the building blocks of a good life: Education, Income & Health.We provide long-term funding, technical assistance, and support to a portfolio of programs at partner agencies that are meeting high priority needs. We have a significant research and community planning function and regularly collaborate on community initiatives. Information is used to set priorities for program funding and community problem-solving activities. Initiatives:Smart Beginnings Greater Richmond: a regional coalition of local public and private organizations, businesses, and citizens working together to ensure that the region’s children enter school healthy, well-cared for, and ready to succeed in school and in life. YPQI (Youth Program Quality Initiative): a regional effort to improve the quality of programs serving children and youth during out of school time hours. The Greater Richmond Age Wave Planning effort: a coalition of public and private organizations, businesses, and citizens working together to ensure that the region is Age Wave Prepared. Metrocash Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Coalition: This program, run by United Way, provides free income tax preparation and cash coaching.
