Mentoring Program Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA Member Serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member with MENTOR Virginia (MVA)! MVA is a statewide organization focused on the expansion of research based, high-quality mentoring in Virginia. VISTA Members will help further our mission is to provide training and sustainable support systems to mentors and mentoring programs to increase the quality and quantity of mentoring for Virginia's youth. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service to America), the domestic equivalent to the Peace Corps, is a national service program sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) offering members a modest living allowance in exchange for their commitment of a year of service while they build permanent infrastructure in order to help alleviate poverty and find community self-sustainability. As a MVA VISTA Member, you will join our team of full-time VISTA Members serving throughout Virginia. Our VISTA Members serve with partner organizations to support each organization's internal capacity focusing on: Program Development, Volunteer Recruitment, Mentor/Mentee Training, Match Support, and Resource Development. The VISTA Members will design and implement a sustainable mentor recruitment and marketing programs, launch training initiatives, match and support mentors and mentees, and evaluate the program. The VISTA Member will conduct independent research and attend monthly MVA trainings in Richmond and online to learn best practices in mentoring. They will work with their Host Site Supervisors to implement learned practices into the program. During your service year, you will be trained on the Elements of Effective Practice, research based methods for developing and sustaining a mentoring program and exposed to professional development opportunities. Enhancement trainings are customized to cohort needs, previous trainings include the following topics: Cultural Responsiveness, LGBTQ Sensistivity and Awareness, Trauma Informed Care Introduction and Integration, Effective Communications within an Office Culture, Self Care and Meditation, Financial Planning and Independence, and Group Facilitation. MVA has open positions in Alexandria, Charlottesville, Chesterfield, Herndon, Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia. MVA is seeking to place VISTA Members with the following agencies: Abundant Life, C4K, Casa Chirilagua, Communities in Schools Chesterfield, ForKids Inc., Germanna Community College, MEGA Mentors, MentorPrize, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club.
