Fund Development Assistant | About Us: Since 1978, the Virginia Poverty Law Center (VPLC) has worked with legal aid programs, community organizations, and private attorneys throughout Virginia to provide assistance and training to attorneys, paralegals, clients, and other advocates. Additionally, VPLC, working in a center model, engages in litigation, education, and lobbying to obtain justice for low-income Virginians and break down the systems that keep people in poverty. Job Description: We seek a mission-driven Development Associate to work collaboratively with the Director of Development to support VPLC’s growth and enhance the success of our fundraising activities, including branding statewide and nationally. This position provides development administrative support, including gift processing, managing the acknowledgment process, event planning and coordination, donor campaign support, research, and campaign mailing coordination. This position reports to the Director of Development and is an excellent opportunity for entry into nonprofit fundraising and Community Centric Fundraising principles. Duties & Responsibilities: • Learn about Community Centric Fundraising (CCF) and actively engage in efforts to build CCF principles into your role and those of our team and organization. • Manage donor records accurately & conduct quarterly database maintenance. • Manage donor and sponsor stewardship & communication process, including gift entry, thank you notes, pledge entry and sending invoices. • Support all development programs, projects, and events. • Produce routine and custom reports in support of fundraising and marketing efforts. • Reconcile donor reports with financial systems monthly. • Assist in the production and mailing of appeals, Annual Report, sponsorship documents, other items as needed. • Support and respond to members of VPLC’s Board of Directors and Advisory Council, including managing logistics and taking minutes for quarterly Board meetings. • Grant research and administrative support in submission process. • Coordinate with VPLC’s Communication team on external communications and website, as needed. • Assist with special event logistics. Paralegal/Project Coordinator for Legal Assistance to Victim-Immigrants of Domestic Abuse (LA VIDA) | About Us: Since 1978, the Virginia Poverty Law Center (VPLC) has worked with legal aid programs, community organizations, and private attorneys throughout Virginia to provide assistance and training to attorneys, paralegals, clients, and other advocates. Additionally, VPLC engages in litigation, education, and lobbying to obtain justice for low-income Virginians and break down the systems that keep people in poverty. Job Description: VPLC seeks a full-time Paralegal/Project Coordinator for its grant-funded program, Legal Assistance to Victim-Immigrants of Domestic Abuse (LA VIDA). LA VIDA assists certain low-income immigrant victims of domestic/sexual violence or trafficking in applying for visas for which they are eligible. Duties & Responsibilities: • Provide administrative support for the two LA VIDA Attorneys, including management of tasks, case coordination, document preparation, including immigration forms, scheduling and other administrative tasks, as needed. • Administer intakes of potential clients; provide both initial screening and outreach or referrals. • Work with client in the process of collecting documents and organizing them in physical and digital files. • Lift and move large physical file folders—up to 10 lbs—frequently • Sort, staple, scan, two-hole punch, and organize large amounts of paperwork on a daily basis. • Assist the client in the process of writing his/her personal statement. • Answer phone calls, take notes/messages, redirect calls, and convey messages to appropriate LA VIDA staff. • Update and maintain a case management system, including executing contemporaneous notes of all case activities and contact updates. • Maintain responsibility for meeting deadlines by keeping multiple agendas and providing timely reminders. • Effectively communicate with clients and service providers in both English and Spanish and be comfortable using Language Line to communicate with clients in other foreign languages. • Attend and take accurate notes and type minutes for LA VIDA meetings. • Lead and maintain effort, while coordinating with LA VIDA attorneys, to develop and promote partnerships with allied professionals, including the development of relationships with law schools, pro bono attorneys and/or attorneys who will provide services for a reduced cost/fee, and other legal assistance organizations or organizations that provide similar services. • Perform accurate and reliable data entry required for grant reporting and to track program activities and goals. • Conduct outreach in the community and coordinate with LA VIDA attorneys to train and develop collaborative relationships with pro bono attorneys, local domestic and sexual violence programs, local law enforcement agencies, local Departments of Social Services, Victim Witness Advocates, and other allied professionals on trauma-informed and evidence-based immigrant visa completion for undocumented and under-documented immigrant victims of domestic or sexual violence and trafficking. • Develop and maintain volunteer program to conduct surveys and evaluations of services. • Drive to and from clients’ homes and/or USCIS—Norfolk office—to attend biometrics, obtain court documents, or other client-related activities requiring travel. | Administrative & Office Support | May 19, 2023 |
