After School Robotics Teams Sustainability Manager


Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of middle and high school students in Richmond? VirginiaFIRST dba FIRST Chesapeake robotics is looking for a self-starter with good people skills to administer STEM-based after school programs in Richmond City public schools. This position will manage a small staff of dedicated hourly employees and volunteers.

This position will be classified as a 1099 contractor and will report to the Director of Programs.

Primary duties will include:
• Oversee and implement NextUp RVA programing in four or more Richmond City public middle schools
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all NextUp RVA activities.
• Verify classroom leads submit attendance electronically at the beginning of each class
• Manage a team of lead instructors and provide them with hands-on technical training specific to the FTC robotics program. Model teaching and conflict resolution strategies for leads and volunteers prior to session 1.
• Familiarize leads with curriculum and attend all NextUp RVA training, planning and informational sessions.
• Function as liaison between the organization and contracted partners and schools
• Manage budget and complete all necessary purchases relevant to each partner site/school
• Assist in recruitment and training of classroom leads, assistants, and volunteers
• Create work schedules for leads, assistants, and volunteers
• Substitute for leads or assistants when necessary – illness, emergencies, etc.
• Conduct positive 30 minute parent phone call report for each student registered for the class (Mandatory)
• Document date and time of each phone call: submit call log to NextUp RVA program manager at the end of each session (Mandatory)
• Communicate terms with each school site coordinator in order to secure storage space for team supplies
• Register and attend at least one YPQI training event per session (3 sessions) (Mandatory)
• Table or Present during each site’s end of session Showcase = 12+ Showcases (Mandatory)
• Present at informational events to introduce students to the program at the beginning of each session
• Availability – weekday afternoons between 2pm and 7pm. Some weekend and evening work may be required. September 15th-June 15th.
• Provide direct team support to Greater Richmond teams falling under any of the FIRST Chesapeake sustainability grants.

This position will be classified as a 1099 contractor and will report to the Director of Programs.

Required Qualifications:
Requirements: • Reliable transportation• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds• Desire to bring the excitement of STEM-based learning to teens • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and bring fun and innovative learning to classes of up to 12 students per school/team.• Knowledge of FIRST Tech Challenge or similar programs is preferred but not required.
Salary range $18K-$24K.
Negotiable - reasonable transportation or other expenses may be reimbursed with prior approval
