Children’s Hospital Foundation works to maximize philanthropic impact in children’s health at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, driving excellence in patient care, education, and research. We are dedicated to raising and stewarding philanthropic resources that will enable CHoR to become a Top 20 Children’s Hospital by 2022.

In 2019, Foundation and Hospital leadership embarked on an exciting journey that will transform pediatric health care in Central Virginia and beyond with the announcement of the construction of an inpatient children’s hospital. The new hospital tower will be constructed adjacent to the existing outpatient Children’s Pavilion on the MCV Campus and will complete an entire city block dedicated to the care of children. As part of the $350+ million construction, the Foundation is currently working to complete a $100 million capital campaign by 2022.

The Communications Specialist assists with all organizational communications with a special focus on managing digital media, including website, social media, e-newsletters, online fundraising campaigns, and online advertising.

Key Responsibilities:
• Writes, edits and uploads Foundation content to the hospital website and social media accounts.
• Develops and manages calendar of social media content with input from other Foundation and Hospital employees.
• Oversees online giving campaigns, event registrations, and peer-to-peer fundraisers.
• Oversees online communications, including e-newsletters, paid digital media, and donor messages through Luminate.
• Supports fundraising functions—including events, CMN programs, annual fund, major giving, and planned giving—through the creation of related materials, promotional assistance, and other tasks as needed.
• Works with outside vendors and partners related to the creation of communication materials.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in communications or related field preferred. Minimum 2 years experience in communications, with a preference for non-profit experience. Must possess excellent written and communication skills. Must have knowledge and abilities related to content writing, editing, and publication design. Must be familiar with online platforms, including social media and e-newsletter systems. Must be able to work effectively and independently and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Must be proficient in the use of MS Office products. Discretion with confidential materials required and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a broad spectrum of people: staff, volunteers, physician leaders.
