PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The Consultant’s review will include the organization’s website. The Consultant will provide suggestions for edits. The Consultant will draft a gift acknowledgment letter that can be used to provide a receipt to donors and will create a proposal (template) that can be used when applying for major gifts and grants.
2. Create a donor management system. The Colonial Heights Education Foundation has constituents (donors, friends, and supporters) and the organization will want to track data on them, including every interaction with staff like the constituent’s giving history, biographical information, and capacity (wealth rating).
3. The Consultant will provide a recommendation for an inexpensive cloud-based donor management system that will not cost more than $500 per year. If the recommendation is approved, the Consultant will implement the new system and import constituents into the database.
4. The Consultant will draft a policies and procedures manual for donor management system tasks like gift processing (entering gifts), entering contact reports, coding constituents (e.g. friend, alumni, parent, board member, etc.), and entering biographical information.
5. Annual Giving is one of the most important areas in an organization’s fundraising efforts. It consists of many types of solicitation vehicles including direct mail, e-solicitations, social media solicitations and direct asks via email, phone, and face to face.
6. The Consultant needs to develop an annual giving program to generate financial resources and to build a pipeline for leadership and major gifts.
7. The Consultant will leverage no cost solicitation strategies like social media and e-solicitations to acquire new donors and will utilize direct mail for an end of year appeal to the organization’s key constituents.
8. As new donors are acquired, it will be important to steward them so they feel like their gift is appreciated and that the organization cares about them. The Consultant will be responsible for ensuring that gift acknowledgment letters are sent to donors within 72 hours of receipt of gift.
9. The Consultant will start a thank-a-thon program so donors are personally thanked for their gift, and to obtain constituent information for the purpose of updating the organization’s donor management system. Major donors will receive periodic updates
from staff and will be invited to special events.
10. The Consultant will launch donor profiles on social media as another way to thank donors, while encouraging others to support the organization.
11. As part of developing a major gifts pipeline, the Consultant will research private foundations who support education in central Virginia and will develop a spreadsheet of prospects, with grant application deadlines, ask amount, and project to be funded.
12. The Consultant will apply for grants to solicit major gifts.
13. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.

Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) years of director level fundraising experience in Higher education and nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organizations. Nonprofit board experience in the Tri-Cities area. Bachelor’s Degree Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working with students, staff members, administrators, and parents.
Salary:
$30 per hour, up to 10 hours per week

None, this is a consultant role, TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Consultant position, $30 per hour, up to 10 hours a week, for no more than one (1) year.
