Title: Director of Development & Marketing

Reports to: Executive Director

About the Role
The Director of Development will advance our mission by developing and implementing a well-balanced plan to ensure sufficient financial resources for long-term growth for the organization and to create a stronger emotional connection with the community. This person will lead and motivate a part-time staff made up of three employees, building upon an already strong culture of collaboration. As the leader of a growing development and marketing team that will support organizational expansion in the future, the Director of Development & Marketing must have the ability to move the annual fundraising and marketing programs to new levels of success.

Expectations for the Director of Development include working with a diverse donor portfolio; being a strong relationship manager; a strategic thinker; an engaging results-oriented leader with a passion for supporting families with critically ill children. He/she must be capable of work in a steeply growing organization that is developing the infrastructure and capacity for significant increases to its community investment. The successful candidate will strengthen our ability to serve, improve policy and processes, steward stakeholders, fundraise tenaciously, communicate using brand standards, and lead a team to do likewise. He/she must be confident, courageous and smart about their work with prospects, donors, community members, and other stakeholders. Through the efforts of the Director of Development & Marketing, the organization’s visibility will be broadened, relationships with donors will be deepened, and philanthropic support will be strengthened.

The Director of Development & Marketing position is a full-time, permanent role. It will occasionally require work on evenings and weekends. Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

• Leadership & Growth of development team to meet annual budget goals of $1 million+ annually;
• Serve as a member of RMHC Richmond’s Core Leadership Team.
• Development and Implementation of long-term strategy to increase revenue and grow emotional connection with community;
• Act as major gifts officer for RMHC Richmond – grow and steward existing relationships while developing new prospects.
• Initiate formal planned giving program with a goal of increasing endowed funds.
• Oversee the development team’s work on the annual fund and events.
• Development and stewardship of ongoing strategic partnerships that move the mission of RMHC forward to reach long-term funding and sustainability;
• Work alongside Executive Director to develop and reach capital campaign goals.
• Serve as organizational leading brand manager and communications lead with oversight for printed materials, media relations, website and organizational voice.

Performs specific other duties or tasks as may be assigned by the Executive Director to advance the understanding, cause, mission and the support of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond.

Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably from the field of nonprofit management or related fields such as communications, public relations, marketing or business. Other qualifications include: a minimum of five years successful experience in fundraising; thorough knowledge of area and national funding sources, as well as laws and regulations governing the conduct of fundraising by nonprofit organizations in Virginia; ability to develop accurate annual budgets and forecasts, and ability to manage budgets to achieve business objectives; demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit major gifts; strong relationship building and interpersonal skills; Strong writing skills, experience with donor database; proficient in MS Office Suite of products, must have a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
