Children’s Hospital Foundation works to maximize philanthropic impact in children’s health at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, driving excellence in patient care, education, and research. We are dedicated to raising and stewarding philanthropic resources that will enable CHoR to become a Top 20 Children’s Hospital by 2022.

In 2019, Foundation and Hospital leadership embarked on an exciting journey that will transform pediatric health care in Central Virginia and beyond with the announcement of the construction of an inpatient children’s hospital. The new hospital tower will be constructed adjacent to the existing outpatient Children’s Pavilion on the MCV Campus and will complete an entire city block dedicated to the care of children. As part of the $350+ million construction, the Foundation is currently working to complete a $100 million capital campaign by 2022.

The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for developing and advancing existing donor relationships and encouraging increased giving through the execution of cultivation and stewardship strategies for prospects and donors to Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. The director of major gifts manages major gift fundraisers, develops metrics and performance expectations and supports CHF in the success of its proactive major gift fundraising activities. The director is a strategic thinker who demonstrates curiosity, a passion for pediatric healthcare, and a commitment to best practices in the development profession. S/he will be engaging and self-motivated with a proven ability to use metrics to develop strategies, drive decisions, achieve goals, and manage/mentor teams.

Key Responsibilities:
• Directs the major gift program for Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
• Develops strong relationships with existing and prospective donors to maximize giving to CHoR.
• Knowledgeable about CHoR and the opportunities for donors to make a difference, supporting first the priorities for impact at CHoR.
• Develops organizational strategies to maximize community engagement and support fundraising goals.
• Utilizes data to prioritize outreach.
• Ensures robust data entry to support long term success of the fundraising program.
• Develops and implements donor cultivation and stewardship strategies.
• Provides leadership to CHF team on maximizing fund development efforts for the organization.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of fund development or other related professional experience required. • Master’s degree and/or CFRE preferred. • Health care and/or children’s hospital fundraising experience preferred. • Discretion with confidential materials required and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a broad spectrum of people: staff, volunteers, physician leaders. • Demonstrated experience in understanding and/or managing a successful development program. • Strong track record in major gift fundraising required. • Strong problem solving, analytical, organizational, and time management skills are essential. • Excellent customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. • Proficient in the use of MS Office products. • Experience using Blackbaud products, including RE NXT, preferred.
