The Faith Community Outreach Coordinator synchronizes Virginia-based faith climate voter and climate mobilization campaigns to leverage the importance of the faith community as central to both a values voter platform and addressing climate change. The coordinator will work closely with the VAIPL Director, steering committee, staff and national partners to collect voter pledges, distribute voter guides, coordinate working directly with congregations and communities, etc. The coordinator will assist in outreach to, relationship-building with, education and mobilization of faith communities.

VAIPL will prioritize working with low-income communities and communities of color. This position will initially work on the Faith Climate Voter program this summer and then will transition to leading faith-based community organizing around climate justice in the fall. Applicants must be willing to work occasional weekends and evenings.

Organizational Background:

Virginia Interfaith Power and Light (VAIPL), a program of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (VICPP), is seeking a coordinator to assist with VAIPL mobilization doing the good work of educating and recruiting faith leaders and congregations on the issues of climate change, environmental justice, and civic engagement. We are a regional affiliate of the national organization Interfaith Power & Light.

VAIPL, a nonpartisan organization, empowers all faith communities across the Commonwealth of Virginia to achieve sustainable living. Our mission is to collaborate, as people of faith, to grow healthy communities and advance climate justice through education, advocacy, and worship.

Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications: • Excellent written and oral communication skills. (Required) • Prior experience and ability writing and delivering training, curriculum and/or educational materials. (Required) • Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers and/or faith communities. (Required) • Involvement in logistics and execution in event planning. (Required) • Passion for caring for the environment and working in the interfaith community. (Required) • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends. (Required) • Experience in working with the faith community. (Required) • Experience with outreach to the media including writing press advisories and releases. (Preferred) • Experience in community organizing. (Preferred) • B.A./B.S. degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science, Religious Studies, or a closely related field. (Preferred)
Salary:
$40,000
Benefits:
The Faith Community Outreach Coordinator position is Full-time, limited duration through June 2021 with flexible scheduling. This position is dependent on grant funding. Benefits include vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days along with retirement contribution after six months.
