Family Shelter and Housing Coordinator


This is one of two positions being filled. This position is focused on families experiencing homelessness. The other position is focused on single individuals experiencing homelessness. Summary of Position: The Family Shelter and Housing Coordinator facilitates referrals for emergency shelter, rapid re-housing (RRH), and permanent supportive housing (PSH) for the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care (GRCoC). The Coordinator will use HMIS reporting to prioritize and assign emergency shelter beds to families experiencing homelessness on a daily basis. Additionally, the Coordinator matches open spots in RRH and PSH programs to families based on vulnerability. The Coordinator works with the System Manager to improve referral processes, ensure program availability is quickly and appropriately filled, and support case conferencing.

Reports to: System Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Use HMIS to view, organize, and prioritize emergency shelter space availability
• Match clients to emergency shelter based on GRCoC prioritization and eligibility
• Work with Coordinated Entry access points to communicate shelter availability and matches
• Partner with emergency shelters to ensure referrals are appropriate, timely, and well-communicated
• Use HMIS reporting to generate a by-name-list (BNL) of prioritized clients for RRH and PSH
• Communicate client matches for RRH and PSH with case managers and receiving programs/agencies
• With the System Coordinator, support case conferencing

Required Qualifications:
• Knowledge of homelessness or another comparable human services system • Understanding of process-driven systems and change • Oral and written communication skills • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize work based on urgency and importance • Strong organizational skills • Basic understanding of the Service Point HMIS system is desirable • Ability to work as a leader and as a member of the team
Approximately $35,000 per year, commensurate with experience
