The Planning Council is expanding its team of professionals that supports its role as the lead agency and coordinator of Southeastern Virginia’s Continuum of Care (CoC) and administrator of the region’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). The Planning Council has effectively integrated the activities of these two programs to inform the region’s decision-making bodies about gaps in the homeless service delivery system, trends within the homeless community, and provides client-level data to individual localities and homeless service providers that allows service development and delivery based on locality-specific trends and needs. The coordination efforts of the CoC team are instrumental in developing new approaches to ending homelessness based on best practices, while also ensuring compliance with funding agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. Activities of the HMIS data team allow homeless service providers the ability to track client services and outcomes, as well as to refer clients between agencies and programs and identify all available resources. Combined, the team members demonstrate trends among the homeless population, improving services, identifying gaps, and better targeting funds.

Ideal candidates for this team will have the ability to effectively integrate their technical skills in database administration with the ability to strategically analyze data, identify trends, and recommend solutions that prevent and end homelessness across multiple jurisdictions. To be successful, a team member should be a strategic thinker, should be self-motivated, driven, flexible, willing to take initiative, well-organized, and looking to contribute to an organization by using their skills to help make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring.

The Continuum of Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating activities and providing administrative support for regional CoC programs. The position serves as a member of the Continuum of Care Team responsible for supporting homeless service provider agencies and securing federal, state and local funding for housing and services.
