Life Skills Instructor Part Time

Virginia Home for Boys and Girls

Do you want to apply your talents to an organization with a great mission? We’re always looking for people with a passion for helping youth to join our team of professionals at VHBG. Since our founding in 1846, VHBG has provided care for thousands of children in crisis. Our mission is to help children across Virginia with emotional and behavioral health concerns. Our Group Care Services help youth ages 11-17 learn to live in a healthy family; our Independent Living Arrangement (ILA) offers housing and support services to youth ages 17-21 who are aging out of foster care; our John G. Wood School provides specialized K-12 education to students with challenges that impact their academic success; and we provide Therapeutic Resources such as counseling, therapy, and psychiatry. VHBG is licensed by the Department of Social Services and aims to create the most natural environment for our youth that still provides them with the supports they need to overcome past trauma, build relationships, and work on transitioning to a more permanent environment.

VHBG’s dedicated staff believes every youth who walks onto our campus is destined for success regardless of the experiences of their past. Knowing that relationships are the first step to overcoming the effects of trauma, each young person in our Independent Living Arrangement (ILA) program works directly with an ILA case worker who provides support and encouragement. Our ILA case workers guide youth on their path to independence through effective relationship building, supervision, coaching, counseling, and service planning. The majority of our youth come to us with little experience managing day-to-day tasks and we teach them how to depend on themselves.
We’re currently looking for a part time LIFE SKILLS INSTRUCTOR for our ILA program. The LIFE SKILLS INSTRUCTOR works collaboratively with the ILA Case Worker(s) to facilitate the independent living skill development of youth.
