Peter Paul is seeking a Nursing Coordinator to provide services to the MLK Promise Center program. The program is comprised of up to 100 students in grades 2-8. Our students receive daily instruction from their RPS grade-level teacher virtually, supplemented by Peter Paul program assistants and specialists in core subject areas as well as the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities.

Reports to: Director of Education
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-1:30PM or 1:00PM-6:30PM
Time Period: October 19 – December 31, with possibility of extension

Roles and Responsibilities:
The MLK Promise Center Nursing Coordinator must ensure a high quality, safe experience for all of our students. He/she must be innovative and adapt to quickly changing environment. All Peter Paul employees are expected to maintain high expectations for self, colleagues, students and families and must maintain a professional, ethical and responsible attitude to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Administer health screenings daily for employees, students, or anyone else entering the building
• Administer student medications in accordance with DSS guidelines
• Attend to minor injuries and first aid needs of students as needed
• Collect, organize and maintain health records for students in accordance with DSS guidelines
• Review Peter Paul’s infectious disease plan and guidelines and make recommendations for enhancements on an ongoing basis in accordance with CDC and VDH guidelines
• Ensure guidelines are being followed throughout the day
• Maintain contact with Virginia Department of Health to determine program closing due to COVID-19 if necessary in partnership with Director of Operations
• Participate in recommended team meetings, training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth to acquire knowledge of current best practices
• Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces in accordance with site plan
• Required to wear face mask daily and practice physical distancing when possible
• Assist in classrooms as needed

Required Qualifications:
● Must have a valid license or certification to practice as a nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), or medical technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia ● Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred or successful completion of a program leading to Registered Nurse License ● Must maintain current certification in CPR/First Aid/AED from a recognized provider (e.g., American Heart Association) ● Must have the ability to work effectively with children, young adults, families, teachers and school administrators ● Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and must be adaptable to changing priorities ● Must be able to work independently and to effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously and the ability to work efficiently under minimum on-site supervision ● Assume responsibility for continuing education; obtain expert consultation, supervision, and peer review as needed
