The Organization
MEGA Mentors was founded in the fall of 2009 when Dr. Marcus Newsome, former Superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS), called a few Community Leaders together to discuss mentoring African American male students at James River High School. The following year the organization was officially named MEGA Mentors whose Vision, Mission, and Goals are:

Vision
To make a positive, measurable difference in the lives of underrepresented students in the Chesterfield County Public School System.

Mission Statement
To teach life skills, provide meaningful learning experiences and build leadership skills in African-American and other underrepresented CCPS students through mentoring, tutoring, experiential field trips, and recognition.

Goals of MEGA Mentors
• Provide group and/or one-on-one mentoring
• Provide structured classroom and one-on-one tutoring services
• Increase awareness of higher education and career opportunities for students and parents
• Teach the values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, EFFORT, and ACHIEVEMENT to:
o Instill hope, goal orientation, self-confidence, and leadership skills
o Increase personal and scholastic achievement
o Decrease disciplinary incidents
o Improve the graduation rate
o Engage parents to meet program goals

MEGA Volunteers support over 600 students in 10 CCPS Elementary, Middle and High schools. Students surveys have indicated increases in Student hope, self-initiation and self-regulation. Overall performance has increased within the group.

MEGA Mentors and Chesterfield Education Foundation work in partnership to support students in CCPS.

Position Summary
The Program and Event Manager will partner with MEGA’s President, Executive Committee and Board of Directors to successfully implement programs and manage membership to support success. The Program and Event Manager is responsible for maintaining membership systems, coordinating events, coordinating and implementing student programs and partnering with the Executive Committee (EC) to facilitate effective internal and external communications.

The Program and Event Manager will provide direct support as needed to the Chesterfield Education Foundation (CEF).

The Program and Event Manager position reports to the President of MEGA Mentors and works in close partnership with the CEF Executive Director.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Work with MEGA’s committees to establish mentoring schedules, communications, and meetings.
• Facilitate select committee meetings (Events and Communications)
• Support the President and Executive Committee in making key relationships to enhance the brand, resources, and gifts.
• Work very closely with the MEGA events committee and CEF to coordinate and support organizational events. A partial list includes:
o Maintain the master calendar for all MEGA Mentor events and training
o Back to School Activities
o Walk a Mile
o BRAVO! Awards
o Fine Art Benefit & Sale
o Freedom Classic
o Student Field Trips
o Student and Volunteer Recognition Banquet
• Program Management
o Serve as the liaison with the school lead mentors to coordinate events, training, etc.
o Coordinate and support new mentor onboarding training
o Ensure and manage all supplies and resources for onsite mentoring programs
o Observe and apply best practices for youth-centered mentoring
o Manage and update all marketing, training, and curriculum as needed
o Interact with organizational stakeholders (parents, teachers, administrators, partners) to enhance relationships.
• Communications
o Work with the CEF staff and communications committee to coordinate communications and marketing for events
o Work with MEGA’s Board in assuring communications are consistent with brand image and quality
o Assist in keeping the website and social media platforms up to date
• Fund Raising
o Generate Ideas on how to enhance the organization’s financial position
o Work with the MEGA and CEF Boards on Development Events

Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • A passion for public schools and a commitment to public education • Minimum of three years of experience in program management, fundraising; event management, project management, communications • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred • Ability to compellingly convey MEGA’s mission, impact, needs across the community, and opportunities to partner • Knowledge of the philanthropic community and opportunities strongly preferred • Ability to develop and manage long-term, strategic priorities while balancing day-to-day responsibilities • Strong technology skills; Office 365 and email marketing tools • Authentic, effective, and professional interpersonal skills; proven success in building relationships and working with diverse internal and external stakeholders • Strong skills in planning, organizing, attention to detail, and communication • Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce and edit work appropriate for external audiences with little oversight • Proven ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, follow-through on commitments, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
Salary:
The salary for this regular, non-exempt, part-time hourly position is $13-18 per hour. This position normally works, 20-25 hours per week.
Benefits:
This position requires a criminal background check prior to hiring. Occasional evening and weekend availability for events is required.
