STORY-Southside Transformation Opportunities for Residents and Youth

A signature program of STORY is ML2, a Math, Literacy and Leadership youth development program. The ML2 program provides high-quality afterschool, weekend, and summer activities for HRHA youth residents in grades K-5. The Youth Program Assistant is responsible for supervising children, coordinating tutoring strategies, distribution of snack and meal, and related administrative duties.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Identify appropriate tutoring and engagement strategies (both in-person and online) for a variety of K-5 students who have a range of talents, skills and behavioral challenges;
• Provide youth supervision and guidance in a creative, thoughtful, patient, empathetic and culturally competent manner;
• Collect participant data (demographics, math, literacy and leadership skills, daily attendance, mentoring match, etc.) and ensure regular updates in participant file folders;
• Ensure program and activities are implemented according to the most recent edition of the STORY ML2 Program Manual;
• Coordinate activities with other STORY staff members and volunteers to ensure seamless delivery of program and services; and,
• Perform work in community setting with limited supervision;

Required Qualifications:
Qualifications: • Associate degree or some college in social work, education, human services or related fields • Experience in youth development and community engagement • Working knowledge of trauma informed care • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people • Detail oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing • Ability to effectively use MS Office, social media and database software applications.
