Program Assistant, Transportation Services

Assisting Families of Inmates

The Program Assistant position plays a critical role in helping AFOI achieve its vision to provide high-quality programs in areas of family connectivity, reunification and reintegration. This position will staff the AFOI Transportation Program in Richmond providing direct, onsite operations.

Program Support – Assist the organization in carrying out the functions necessary to operate the Transportation Program on scheduled program Fridays.
Customer Service Support – Provide high-quality customer service to individuals and families utilizing the Transportation Program.

Specific Duties
1. Highly knowledgeable of Transportation Program policies and procedures for AFOI;
2. Highly knowledgeable of visitation policies and procedures for Virginia Department of Corrections;
3. Provide excellent customer service to individuals and families utilizing the Transportation Program
a. Open and prepare waiting area well in advance of individuals and families arriving for transportation
b. Check identification of individuals and families in accordance with policies and procedures
c. Accurately collect and record rider fees
d. Load buses in an expedient manner and provide an accurate accounting of riders to charter provider
e. Secure the waiting area after buses depart.
4. Provide an accurate account of Transportation Program activities
a. Reconcile the day’s events utilizing AFOI paperwork provided
b. Report any issues (family, offender, institution, equipment) in writing to the Director of Programs and/or ED
c. Record hours worked and submit hours and weekend report to the ED
d. Secure all monies collected per AFOI policies and procedures.
5. Serve as a liaison to volunteers/meal volunteer groups
6. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Successful candidate must possess a minimum of a high school diploma; Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; Knowledge of cash management reconciliation practices and procedures; Availability to early hours several Fridays each month; Ability to interact positively with clients; Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions; Ability to pay attention to detail, to be organized, and self-disciplined; Follow directions, be self-motivated, and able to work independently; Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office; Must have basic understanding of the English language, and be able to communicate effectively and professionally; Experience in volunteer management; Knowledge of community resources. Pre-employment criminal background check required. Schedule The Program Assistant will work at the AFOI transportation site in Richmond on Friday EARLY mornings, possible to alternate/rotate
