Virginia Museum of History & Culture

The Virginia Museum of History & Culture seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Special Events Coordinator. This individual serves as part of the Guest Engagement Division, reports to the Manager of Special Events, and will assist with all elements of special event planning and implementation on behalf of the museum. The Special Events Coordinator will conceive, organize, and facilitate events to include daytime and evening public events, private and donor/fundraising events, and various forms of facility rental. The Coordinator will work closely with VMHC support services teams and contracted vendors, to include caterers and equipment rental companies. The Coordinator will also work regularly with external partners, clients, members, and donors, which will require a dedication to best-in-class customer service and constituent stewardship. The Coordinator will help with the efficient and orderly use of museum venues and meeting rooms and will assist the Manager in properly communicating event information within the organization. The Coordinator will be diligent to ensure adherence to VMHC rules of use during the planning and facilitation of all events and will also work with government agencies when needed to secure any and all required permits and approvals.

Critical projects upon the selected candidate’s arrival will include assisting with the creation of new public, revenue-generating events, as well as general support of the Guest Engagement Division and its purpose to reach new audiences, grow visitation, and expand earned income sources.

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree and/or exemplary experience. Strong organizational skills, demonstrated customer service talent, aptitude in financial management, and previous event management experience.
