Nonprofits are an Economic Force in Virginia
Virginia’s nonprofit sector continues to add jobs and build the economy reports a recent study by the John Hopkins Center for Civic Society Studies and Virginia Commonwealth University, funded by The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia. The report finds that Virginia’s nonprofit sector is the state’s third largest employer, delivering the majority of available health, cultural, and social services that advance the overall quality of life in the Commonwealth. The nonprofit sector’s financial footprint includes $39.2 billion amassed in revenue, $37.9 billion in spending, $78.0 billion in assets, and $313 million in income tax revenue for state government.
