Community Programs encompass all of SCAN’s prevention programs and initiatives that are at the community, state and organizational level. These programs are focused on the prevention of child maltreatment through the advancement of protective factors and trauma informed approaches in organizations, communities and systems.The Greater Richmond Trauma Informed Community Network (TICN) is a diverse group of individuals and organizations, convened by Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), who share a commitment toward the creation of a more trauma informed and resilient community within the Greater Richmond region. Families Are Magic (FAM) offers parenting education and resources to parents, caregivers and professionals who work with children. FAM connects parents with other parents and encourages them to ask questions about parenting in today’s complicated world.
Primary Population Served
SCAN’s Community Programs, including FAM (Families are Magic) and the TICN (Trauma-Informed Community Network), reached 864 adults through various trainings on how to recognize and report child abuse and neglect, trauma informed practices and positive parenting. SCAN’s Community Programs also screened Resilience for over 1,900 individuals last fiscal year. Resilience is a documentary that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and a new movement to prevent and treat toxic stress.
