Internships: Our internships develop the young artists’ artistic and administrative skills. Offered in partnership with area universities, the program is thriving, having grown over 400% since its inception. Interns gain experience in all aspects of operations, including exhibitions, event planning, educational programs, fundraising, community outreach, and nonprofit administration. Interns are a vital component of our operations, as we only have one full-time staff person. Our interns express “feeling valued” and “truly contributing” to the continued success and rapid growth of S23; they are consistently challenged, consistently educated, and consistently busy. Many interns go on to teach, become S23 artist residents, and pursue careers in the arts. Our former interns are now enrolled in internships at MOMA PS1, Printed Matter, MASS MoCA, 1708 Gallery, the VMFA, and The Valentine.
